University of Southern California Satellite Clinical Office

Pasadena, California

Extending the USC brand.

Extending your brand to new communities.

This tenant improvement project for University of Southern California involves the top floor of the Huntington Outpatient Services Pavilion and houses a variety of clinical services. Lab, phlebotomy, equipment processing, and pharmacy spaces support the six infusion bays.

The curved circulation connects three natural-light filled waiting rooms, and a fourth is lit by north facing transom windows. Design elements utilized throughout the space include exterior windows with views to the mountains, terrazzo flooring, wood ceilings, and dark wood and onyx reception desks.

The open feeling of the plan configuration is amplified by a translucent tinted tempered glass wall and doors that serve as a backdrop for reception, waiting areas, and nurse stations and as points of entry to the clinical areas. The exam room corridors incorporate transom windows that bring in natural light, and indirectly lit wood ceilings create a relaxed, non-clinical atmosphere.

The infusion area incorporates many of the same design elements utilized in the public spaces: natural light from exterior windows, natural materials, and decorative glazing elements. Decorative glass and metal are incorporated into the way finding and signage throughout the facility and are utilized to emphasize the USC identity. Extending the USC brand to Pasadena and giving it the distinctively gracious and relaxed feel of the City of Pasadena were the key design objectives for the pavilion facility.
