Engineering News-Record’s awards and lists are the gold standard in the construction industry, and as Editor-in-Chief Jan Tuchman was planning the issue that would include the Top Project Delivery Firms of 2020, she realized there was an opening for an accompanying feature story.

"A storyline that we frequently go to is that we look for a firm that is significant in the world of that list,” Tuchman said. “Clearly, Haskell has been for years a significant player on that list."

Indeed, Haskell is a pioneer in Design-Build delivery and rose two spots to No. 28 on the list of the Top 100 Design-Build Firms in 2020.

But in what would become the magazine’s cover story, Scott Judy, deputy editor for regions and editor of ENR Southeast, chronicles a company that has grown well beyond the delivery model with which it has been synonymous in order to strengthen relationships and better serve clients’ needs.

Or, as the story says, “Long-time design-builder Haskell is now embracing an all-of-the-above project delivery approach.”

"Haskell has broadened out from its base of Design-Build, and it delivers all kinds of other project-delivery methods and also doing design on its own – design on its own, construction on its own, all of the above,” Tuchman said. “That was so interesting to me, so I thought it would be interesting to our audience."

The June 8 issue also features a story on BLOX, a partner in which Haskell strategically invested in May 2019. Haskell added committed full-time staff to the partnership, as the two companies work together on some of its current healthcare and religious/cultural projects. BLOX, a Bessemer, Alabama-based prefabrication specialist, continues to operate independently, delivering modules to its clients using its Design, Manufacture, Construct (DMC) methodology.
