Swisher Theatre Renovations

Jacksonville, Florida

We made Jacksonville University’s Swisher Theatre shine again.

The brilliant onstage performances at Jacksonville University’s Swisher Theatre couldn’t hide the venue’s outdated infrastructure. Backstage, the facility also needed more space to house key theatre departments and room to educate theatre students.

Functionality receives star billing.

Our extensive design-build project expanded the 22,000-square-foot facility, providing extra space for an extended stage, orchestra pit, grand lobby and faculty offices. An addition to the rear of the theatre modernized the backstage area giving production crews, students and casts access to a costume shop, makeup room, dressing rooms, scene shop, design studio, tool and paint rooms, a state-of-the-art sound and intercom system, intelligent lighting and a new control booth. We replaced existing electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems for enhanced functionality and performance.

Every performance begins with a dramatic entrance.

The breathtaking 400-seat theatre is again a sought-after performance venue and state-of-the-art educational facility. And, it’s an architectural award winner. In 2008, the Jacksonville Chapter of the American Institute of Architects honored Swisher Theatre with an Award of Merit for Design Excellence.
