Fabrication, Sales and Service Underpin for Eric Jensen’s Leadership
Learn how the Haskell Superintendent's technical depth and people skills make him 'the glue that keeps it all together' on complex projects.
Eric Jensen cultivated his love of the outdoors growing up in Idaho, developed his organizational skills in the National Guard and learned how to connect with people while selling cars.
“I learned I could talk to people,” Jensen said. “A lot of people struggle in sales, but I learned how to connect with people.”
But he has spent most of his time working in the construction industry, primarily with Western Mechanical & Industrial, an American Falls, Idaho-based contract manufacturer specializing in metal fabrication and welding.
“I’ve built my career around welding and piping,” Jensen said. “The benefit of working for a small company is that I was able to do a lot of varied things – wastewater, fertilizer, mulching plants, all kinds of consumer products. It was a small company with a big mindset. It helped me develop my capabilities. I can do many things. I know about a lot of processes and how to bring them to successful completion.”
When the company was sold, Jensen was laid off. He began searching for jobs and discovered Haskell, which was working on a design-build project to deliver a new French fry processing facility in American Falls.
Jensen is now a superintendent for Haskell on a greenfield manufacturing plant project in Aurora, Colorado, that comprises design, engineering, safety, steel, procurement, process equipment installation and commissioning, concrete tilt-up services and all site infrastructure.
Project manager Matthew Magallanes said the people skills Jensen learned on the car lot are the real deal. Magallanes said he considered Jensen one of the best superintendents he’s worked with.
“He’s a problem-solver. He’s great with the client. He’s great with challenging trading partners. He’s the glue that keeps it all together,” Magallanes said.
Jensen said he enjoys working for Haskell.
“I like the teams. Everyone has their knowledge base, and together we create a good finished product, a successful job,” Jensen said. “I really like feeling my voice is heard. If I have an opinion, it matters.”
Jensen and his wife, Candace, have been married for 27 years. They have three children from previous marriages and a granddaughter they adopted.
“My wife is a field clerk for Haskell, so she and our granddaughter travel with me,” he said.
In his spare time, Jensen says he enjoys golfing, boating, fishing and hunting. He also enjoys playing board games with his nieces and nephews.
“What I like to do more than anything is hang out with the family.”
