The SPOT starts with a simple idea: Give people a place to sit and someone willing to listen.
Haskell Senior Healthcare Architect Kristen Argalas, has worked with United Way of Northeast Florida, The Center of Hope for Behavioral Health, NAMI Jacksonville and Jacksonville’s 988 Steering Committee to develop the community-based mental health initiative. Inspired by Dr. Dixon Chibanda’s Friendship Bench model, The SPOT will place trained listeners and community volunteers in public spaces where anyone can stop and talk.
The first bench is scheduled to open at the Emmett Reed Community Center this fall, followed by one at the Kennedy Community Center in Spring 2027. The locations are intended to connect people in communities experiencing higher rates of suicide, substance use and domestic violence with conversation, support and additional resources.
Makinley Fields joined the Orlando Health Children’s Pavilion project near the beginning. Now she’s helping finish it.
A former Haskell intern and current assistant project manager, Makinley coordinates trades, tracks inspections and documentation and helps prepare the multi-story healthcare facility for turnover. She credits her internship with teaching her to trust her decisions and ask questions, even when they feel small or uncomfortable.

Haskell’s future has a new home on the Southbank of the St. Johns River.
At today’s grand opening and ribbon-cutting of the 11th through 14th floors at 701 San Marco, we celebrated a headquarters built for collaboration, innovation and the people who make our work possible.

Nearly 200 entries. Ten finalists. One very good Top Dog.
In honor of National Dog Day, Haskell’s first-ever Top Dog Competition invited team members across the company to submit their canine coworkers, adventure partners and resident treat inspectors. After a public vote, Lula took home the title and earned her human a gift card.
Meet Lula and the rest of this year’s finalists:
🐾 Lula takes jobsite safety seriously, always wearing her PPE, keeping four paws on the ground and reporting unauthorized snack activity directly to management.
🐾 Axel is always ready to work with safety at the forefront. He has also been known to sneak into the barn and steal a chicken egg for an afternoon snack.
🐾 Arya loves everyone she meets and has been described as the happiest dog alive. When she visited a jobsite in her safety vest, she quickly became its resident site dog.
🐾 Bruno and his four brothers were rescued from a contaminated property. While his brothers found new families, Bruno stayed with his foster family and made it permanent.
🐾 Daisy is best friends with Leonard, the family’s orange cat. They arrived home only a few weeks apart and have been inseparable ever since.
🐾 Dobby is part beagle, part Chihuahua and part house elf.
🐾 Flyer goes bonkers for dried anchovies and is married to Hazelnut who can be seen in the background.
🐾 Frank is a working therapy dog who visits retirement homes. He is also an XXL pit bull weighing 140 pounds.
🐾 Layla is a 5-year-old English Labrador Retriever and a KPETS-certified pet therapy dog. She visits hospitals and children’s programs, bringing calm and joy to patients and others in need.
🐾 Scout is an outdoor enthusiast by day and taco connoisseur by weekend. He is happiest on a trail, in a kayak or sneaking a bite of a well-earned taco.
Congratulations to Lula and all the finalists who gave Haskell’s first Top Dog Competition plenty to bark about.

A European jaunt through Copenhagen, the Scottish Highlands, Edinburgh and Paris offered Haskell Strategic Industry Advisor Phil Morgan more than a change of scenery. It was an opportunity to explore the future of the beer, wine and spirits industry.
Phil traveled by foot, car and plane to immerse himself in the European BWS landscape. Kicking off his journey in Copenhagen for the High-Temperature Heat Pump Symposium, Phil was later joined by Director of Project Development Tony Smith in Scotland. From Edinburgh to the Highlands, the two witnessed firsthand the innovations driving sustainable manufacturing practices.
Haskell Vice President of International Planning & Development Johnathan Toke helped round out the trip in Paris, France, a city Phil once called home for 13 years as the owner of numerous bars and restaurants.
Now back home in Brooklyn, Phil is eagerly applying his learnings to his work on Haskell`s Beer, Wine and Spirits team, bringing passion and global perspective to clients` needs and challenges.

Summer heat doesn`t always equal fun in the sun. It adds another hazard to every task.
Some of the ways Haskell Safety encourages our field teams and Steel Shop professionals to plan for the heat include:
🔹Drink water regularly.
🔹Use fans to improve airflow in work areas.
🔹Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
🔹Watch for lightheadedness, nausea, dizziness or signs of overheating.
🔹Use the buddy system and tell your partner when you need a break.
Safety is a shared value, strengthened by every team member who plans the work, speaks up and looks out for others, wherever the job takes us.
Fourteen high school interns spent part of their summer exploring careers across Haskell.
Each intern was paired with a Haskell mentor in an area aligned with their interests, gaining firsthand experience in disciplines ranging from media and design to engineering and construction management. Through jobsite visits, conversations with professionals, technical activities and weekly presentations, they learned how different roles contribute to the project lifecycle and work together to deliver projects.
The interns applied those lessons through Haskell Renewed, a sustainability-focused service project inspired by Green Apple Day of Service. Working in teams, they developed proposals for a garden and outdoor learning space at Englewood Elementary while considering design, sustainability, constructability, schedule and budget.
Each team presented its proposal this week, contributing ideas that will help shape the final project. This fall, the interns will have the opportunity to return to Englewood Elementary and help bring that vision to life during a day of service.
The future of Haskell came together this week in Jacksonville.
A total of 150 students – 147 from throughout the U.S. and three from Mexico City – gathered for the 2026 Intern Summit, a week of learning, service and connection. The event also marked the conclusion of the Annual Intern Pitch Competition, in which 16 teams spent the summer developing ideas for Haskell. The top five presented to a panel of company leaders, with the winning team receiving a $4,000 grand prize.
Interns explored personal branding and LinkedIn, heard career perspectives from intern alumni and met professionals from across the company in an interactive Expo Hall. They also partnered with the United Way on a service project, heard from former professional basketball player and motivational speaker Patric Young and strengthened their communication and collaboration through team-building activities, including an improv session.
The summit closed another summer of professional growth, new relationships and practical experience for Haskell’s 2026 intern class.
The Miller Electric Center brings Jaguars football, fan access and local opportunity together on a single 244,443-square-foot campus.
The facility gives players, coaches and staff a full-size indoor practice field, two natural grass fields and expanded spaces for training, recovery, meetings and football operations. Fans gain a dedicated amenity building, a 2,050-seat grandstand, retail space and an outdoor concourse featuring local artwork.
Haskell also increased the project’s local small-business participation goal from 30% to 40% and connected graduates of Northeast Florida’s Construction Ready program with opportunities on the project.
The facility received a 2024 ABC Florida First Coast Eagle Award for Mega Projects and was named ENR Southeast’s 2024 Best Project in Sports/Entertainment.

Behind the agave and craftsmanship in every bottle of tequila is a tradition shaped by generations of Mexican heritage and expertise.
Produced only in designated regions using generations-old methods, tequila represents the people who have preserved its legacy for centuries.
In the latest episode of El Arte del Agave con Antonio, José Antonio Hernández Núñez shares why understanding tequila`s origins deepens our appreciation for what`s in every glass. As he says, "every bottle carries the heartbeat of this land."
On National Tequila Day, we`re celebrating one of the world`s most iconic spirits.
Our largest clients never attended a project meeting. They weighed 8,000 pounds.
Thirty-five retired performing Asian elephants needed more than a place to live. They needed a habitat that would let them be elephants again.
At White Oak Conservation in Yulee, Florida, Haskell helped transform 2,500 acres into one of the most ambitious elephant habitats ever built. Forests. Wetlands. Grasslands. Interconnected waterholes. Specialized veterinary facilities. More than 10 miles of fencing.
And it had to be built without disrupting the environment it was meant to protect. Our teams innovated to further sustainability, reduce equipment movement and shave installation time by 30%, saving approximately $20 per linear foot.
Family Day at Haskell Steel brought team members and their families together for a look inside the shop and the work that happens there every day.
The event featured guided tours, equipment displays, activities for kids and plenty of time to connect outside the workday. It gave families a chance to see the processes and craftsmanship behind the steel fabrication that supports projects across Haskell.
“I have been in this industry for most of my kids’ lives, and this was the first time I have ever had the opportunity to show them what I do,” said Steel Fitter 1 Braxton King. “It made me proud. I`m grateful for that.”

Before the first bottle could move down the line, Haskell’s project team had to solve what was happening below the slab.
In Zacoalco de Torres, Jalisco, Haskell delivered a 468,230-square-foot bottled water production and distribution facility for Niagara Bottling, creating a strategically located hub that brings production, packaging and distribution operations together under one roof.
The project site presented significant geotechnical challenges, including soft soils and projected settlements exceeding 40 centimeters without ground improvement. Simultaneously, the team coordinated complex utility systems, integrated high-speed production infrastructure and maintained an aggressive 12-month construction schedule.
Designed for immediate operational readiness and future expansion, the facility supports multiple high-speed bottling lines and serves as a key anchor for Niagara Bottling’s Mexico distribution network.

This week, Haskell welcomed its ninth annual high school internship cohort to the Jacksonville headquarters.
Over the next six weeks, 14 high school interns representing schools across Northeast Florida will gain hands-on experience in the AEC industry through mentorship, industry learning sessions, active jobsite visits and career-focused activities. Interns will also participate in this year’s Haskell Renewed Day of Service Project, a community-focused initiative that gives students the chance to apply what they’ve learned while making a positive local impact.
The internship provides an opportunity for students to explore careers in the industry and gain a better understanding of the paths available to them in the future. Our teams introduce the next generation to architecture, engineering and construction management and can’t wait to see what this group accomplishes.

Five Haskell team members recently returned from the Groundbreaking Women in Construction Conference in San Diego, a premier leadership conference hosted by Engineering News-Record dedicated to advancing women across all roles in the construction industry.
Two full days of programming included sessions on topics such as optimizing career trajectories, quality management in design-build infrastructure projects and building inclusive teams in difficult environments.
Haskell Director or Talent Acquisition Meredith Adragna was one of five panelists during a session titled “Unlocking Innovation: The Business Case for Neurodiversity,” which drew their real-world insights to recognize conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia as a spectrum, and highlight how neurodiverse individuals contribute to increased creativity, innovation and productivity.
Assistant Project Manager McKenna Connell said the GWIC environment created “a real sense of relatability.”
“Speakers from a variety of roles in construction shared very raw and real stories that not only humanized the work we do but also emphasized the impact that having a diverse and representative workforce can make,” she said. “These events are not meant to show face or throw around supposedly inspiring buzzwords; they are a real opportunity to uplift each other and the industry as a whole.
“A recurring theme of the event is that while being a woman in construction today may be seen as a novelty, it will someday become the norm - and all of us are helping that become reality!”
