Haskell received two prestigious awards at the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) 36th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards Gala on March 19 during the ABC Convention 2026 in Salt Lake City.

The company earned a national Excellence in Construction (EIC) Eagle Award for its work on the Fort Myers (Florida) Biosolids Equipment project. It also collected its fifth consecutive National Safety Excellence Pinnacle Award.

The EIC Awards celebrate 86 of the nation’s top construction projects from 2025, including school relocations; convention center, courthouse and beach resort renovations; and the construction of science parks, apartments and hospitals, as well as honoring contractors for their remarkable achievements in leadership, health and safety, innovation and merit.

“ABC’s EIC Awards celebrate achievements in both construction projects as well as recognizing quality, safety and innovation that these teams deliver,” said 2026 Chair of the ABC National Board of Directors Thomas “Murph” Murphy, vice president of Power & Construction Group, Scottsville, New York. “Congratulations to Haskell for showcasing the pinnacle of construction excellence.”

Pinnacle Award

Not only was Haskell’s fifth year in a row, but the sixth in the past seven receiving the ABC’s highest safety honor.

Each year, the ABC National Health and Safety Excellence Awards recognize companies that demonstrate a continued commitment to jobsite health and safety and whose safety performance and programs are judged to be exemplary by the ABC National Health and Safety Committee.

Awards are based on data submitted via the ABC STEP® Health and Safety Management System, essay questions and video interviews with company presidents/CEOs/principals about their corporate health and safety culture. Haskell, as a member of the ABC Florida First Coast chapter, participates in STEP and was recently recognized with the STEP Diamond designation, the highest of six levels. Award categories are based on a company’s total work hours per calendar year and its placement within the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

Haskell champions a Field-Focused approach to safety and is obligated to the safety and well-being of all who execute its projects, including subcontract partners. In 2025, Haskell achieved a record-high 19.7 million exposure hours and a record-low Work-in-Place incident rate of 0.64.

“Haskell is focused on operational excellence, and a focal point is our ability to protect our team members and those who work on our behalf,” said Lance Simons, Vice President of Safety and Quality. “This award only further illuminates that what we’re doing is making a difference, although we always know we’ll strive for more.”

EIC Eagle Award

The City of Fort Myers selected Haskell to serve as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the significant enhancement of biosolids handling facilities at both the South and Central Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facilities.

The scope of work at each facility encompassed several key upgrades, including replacing six 2.0-meter belt presses, three at each plant, with new 2.5-meter belt presses; minor building and ancillary equipment upgrades; and a new dual conveyor system.

Haskell proposed 40 value engineering options, with the owner accepting $2.7 million of the total $4.4 million in savings. Haskell facilitated over $250,000 in owner-direct purchases, optimizing overall project expenses. The team’s thorough investigations of the digesters enabled a more accurate assessment of the content, resulting in a significant reduction in the previously forecast cleaning costs.

EIC Award winners are judged on complexity, unique challenges overcome, completion time, innovation and safety. This year’s judges included representatives from the Design-Build Institute of America, Engineering News-Record, the National Institute of Building Sciences and other select construction-related organizations nationwide.
