Home / News & Insights / Living the Values Winner Stuart Levesque Revels in His IT Role
Stuart Levesque knows not everybody is an “IT pro.” That’s why he responds quickly and calmly to every IT technician request from fellow Haskell team members.
“Whenever somebody has an issue, it can be a time-sensitive thing. You have to quickly mold the way you’re going to help based on their knowledge level — and help out as fast as possible,” Levesque said. “I just treat people the way that I would want to be treated.”
Levesque is one of three Living the Value Award recipients for the fourth quarter. The Jacksonville, Florida native has been with Haskell as an IT technician for nearly seven years.
“Working for Haskell by far has been my favorite job ever,” he said. “It’s a great place to work.”
Levesque earned his associate’s degree from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida, having developed a love for tech support by helping photography studios with photo editing systems and software in the mid-1990s.
Levesque would go to a studio three to five days to teach people how to use the equipment. Some had never had a computer before.
“I had to cater the support based on their knowledge level,” he said.
In nominating Levesque, Construction Project Coordinator Sharla Newkirk wrote, “In the almost five years that I have worked for Haskell, he has been my go-to person for any computer technical issues, software issues and phone issues. Without fail, he is the responsive, cheerful, confident, understanding person on the other end of the phone. Honestly, I don’t know what I would do without him.”
Levesque, who lives in Jacksonville with his wife of 18 years, Lisa, and their four cats, said he was “totally bowled over” at the “total shock” of being a Living the Values award recipient.
He said that of Haskell’s core values— Team, Excellence, Service and Trust — he most connects with “team.”
“Being an IT tech, the one thing I like about this position is that you get to deal with everybody,” he said. “You work with people on the job sites, the CEO — everybody. It’s one of the few positions in the company that allows you to interact with everybody. We have a great group of people here.”
Levesque recalled that when he started at Haskell, he told coworkers that he liked being an IT tech because he enjoyed helping people with their issues. “My [supervisor] said a lot of people who start in the position say that, but that I really meant what I said and that I really enjoy helping people.”
Before COVID, Levesque could go to people’s desks to help them. When the pandemic struck, the company pivoted to working remotely, and a large contingent still does. That means IT issues are resolved by phone or video chat as quickly as possible.
In addition to resolving personal computer issues, Levesque helps roll out new software updates whenever necessary.
“He is one of the ‘behind-the-scenes’ people at Haskell that I hope everyone gets the opportunity to experience,” Newkirk said.
