Project Manager Christina Batroni
Our all-women team had an incredible time representing Haskell at this year’s Groundbreaking Women in Construction event. Even though we all work for the same company, this conference was the first time we had met in person!
The speakers left me deeply inspired – not just to continue building, but to embrace a broader responsibility: shaping the future of construction. We’re not just part of the industry; we’re driving it forward. It's about passing the baton to the next generation of innovators and leveraging the unique strengths of both women and men as we continue to build the world around us.
Project Manager Susie Leary
One thing I thought was interesting that has stuck with me after leaving the conference was that the Miss America-to-Nuclear Designer closing keynote speaker, Grace Stanke, talked about taking up space. That it's ok for women to take up space in meetings, in rooms, and on jobsites. Allowing yourself to take up as much space as everyone else and being heard in a room. I think a lot of women and men could use this advice in their careers.
Senior Design Manager Jennifer May
The conference focused on the future of the industry: inspiring and recruiting the next generation, developing women leaders, and innovation and AI within the profession. Being around other women leaders in the profession, I definitely left inspired and encouraged in my own career trajectory and also in encouraging and motivating Gen. Alpha into this field.
Some of the most thought-provoking sessions were hearing how speakers got into the industry, their experiences and how situations evolved that led to incredible opportunities in their career.
Assistant Project Manager Veronica Ramos
It was truly inspiring to connect with women in the same industry – from the pioneers who forged paths when few had done so, to the new generations navigating a constantly evolving sector, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence.
Hearing their stories made me reflect on the layered challenges women face, not only professionally but also through the personal and social transformations we experience throughout our lives – physical, emotional, hormonal, and societal. These phases may sometimes feel like pauses, but in reality, they are part of the strength that drives us forward.
In an industry where we are still the minority, spaces like this remind us that we are not alone – and that together, we are shaping the future we want to live in and lead.
