The opening offers an opportunity to join Haskell’s team at the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Houston, where it manages all capital projects.
If you’re a licensed electrical engineer interested in playing an integral role in project designs, coordination, client communications and construction administration at a large industrial facility, this Bud’s for you.
Haskell has an immediate opening for an Electrical Project Engineer to join its core group of five to seven team members embedded at the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Houston, where it is under contract to manage all capital projects, performing all engineering and construction management on site.
“It’s definitely fast-paced,” Senior Design Manager Tom Hughes said. “It’s a combination between an electrical superintendent and a packaging engineer. It’s primarily focused on packaging, but there’s also some exposure to the brewing process as well.”
The Houston brewery opened in 1966 and was the fourth of Anheuser-Busch’s 12 major breweries built. Haskell’s contribution to capital improvements over the years has been significant: The brewery has reduced water usage by more than 45% and electricity usage by almost 30% over the past 10 years.
Haskell team members work in a fast-paced environment, occupying a large, open office space among Anheuser-Busch staff, whom Hughes said are great colleagues.
“You’re in the production space, and you get to work with the Anheuser-Busch people,” Hughes said. “It’s a lot of hands-on learning and problem solving. You’re working with the owner helping manage the projects and contractors, so you get a lot of insight and understanding into capital process from the owner’s point of view. Once you’ve been on that side, it helps you understand that a little bit about their goals and their objectives and where they’re coming from and the different pressures that they face.”
While the position is for a mid-career professional, the diversity of assignments offered and skills required make it ideal preparation for future advancement, Hughes said.
“Career-wise it can be a stepping-stone, because once you’ve had that role, that allows you to move into other things,” he said. “I think your next step would be to a position like a design manager or a project manager, depending on which direction you want your career to go. You get a lot of that just hands-on design experience, which helps become, make you a good design manager. And then you also get that kind in depth look at the owner’s capital process, so it helps you be a good project manager.”
A fast-growing company with more than 20 offices across the U.S. and in the Latin American and Asia-Pacific regions, Haskell offers vast opportunity for professional growth. In addition to providing a highly collaborative, it operates with the direction of six strategic pillars, the first of which is to “Provide Team Members the BEST Job of Their Lives,” offering a robust benefits package that includes a 401k match and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), which creates stock ownership for every full-time team member.
And, in the case of the Electrical Project Engineer opening in Houston, there’s one other notable plus.
“I don’t know if I would put this in the article, but, I mean, most of the people on our team, have the opportunity to take home a free case of beer every month from Anheuser-Busch, as long as they are completing their onsite safety inspections” Hughes said. “So that’s a minor perk, and if I were telling my best friend about the job, I would tell him about that.”
