Haskell designers and builders are completing Tampa’s transformative West River BUILD project.
The City of Tampa selected Haskell to design and construct major segments of the West Riverwalk Extension – part of the transformative West River BUILD project. The effort will complete public portions of a 12.2‑mile multimodal corridor that reconnects neighborhoods, enhances waterfront access and re‑imagines the west bank of the Hillsborough River.
The collaborative, engineering‑driven approach enhances mobility and connects communities along the riverfront.
Tampa sought to expand its Riverwalk network while improving mobility, safety, and connectivity between historic neighborhoods, downtown destinations, and waterfront assets. The remaining corridor segments required complex engineering, multi‑agency coordination, and innovative solutions for paths located under bridges, along the shoreline, and over water.
The project delivers integrated multimodal improvements that strengthen travel options and enhance waterfront mobility.
Haskell delivers approximately five miles of multimodal infrastructure, including two miles of the new Riverwalk along the river’s west bank. The project incorporates shared‑use paths, complete street upgrades, lighting, landscaping, living shorelines, guardrails, and targeted seawall improvements. Corridor streets such as Platt Street, Columbus Drive, North Boulevard, and Rome Avenue are being redesigned to increase safety and provide seamless multimodal travel.
The result is a more connected, accessible riverfront supported by federal investment and coordinated corridor improvements.
Funded through local sources and a USDOT BUILD grant, the West Riverwalk Extension strengthens regional mobility and advances Tampa’s vision for a fully connected waterfront. Upon completion, the corridor will offer residents and visitors new recreational access, improved connectivity to key districts including Bayshore Boulevard, Hyde Park, Ybor City, and downtown, and a more resilient, equitable public realm.
