We delivered comprehensive engineering services for the world’s first commercial-scale barley protein facility.
Haskell provided comprehensive engineering design and integration services for EverGrain’s first commercial-scale barley protein production facility in St. Louis, Missouri. The project enables the transformation of brewers’ saved grain into high-quality, nutritious protein ingredients for human consumption, supporting EverGrain’s mission to advance sustainable food systems through innovation.
A purpose-built facility supports advanced food-grade processing.
The project included the design and construction of a new building housing temperature-controlled soluble protein storage, evaporator systems, an indirect gas-heated spray dryer and packaging equipment. This new structure was integrated with a converted stock house that supports the wet side of the barley protein process, creating a seamless production flow from raw material to finished product.
Integrated process systems enable large-scale production.
Haskell designed and integrated new process and packaging systems to extract, separate, dry and package protein derived from brewers’ saved grain. As the first “Generation One” scale-up of EverGrain’s proprietary process, the facility transitions the technology from laboratory success to full commercial operation, requiring close collaboration with the client to identify, specify and source specialized OEM equipment.
Modernized infrastructure ensures safety, reliability and future growth.
The project required upgrading the existing facility to meet modern food safety, health and structural standards while addressing equipment load limitations within the original building. Structural improvements and coordinated system integration ensure long-term reliability and flexibility, with the ability to support future byproduct development, including fiber for human and animal consumption.
