Two members of Haskell’s celebrated Learning, Development & Engagement (LD&E) team, Leadership Development Manager Elizabeth Powell and Development Specialist Maria Jose Toro, have received Training Magazine's 2024 Emerging Training Leaders Award.

Recipients are selected from a global pool of nominees for their exceptional leadership, business acumen and dedication during their first decade as training professionals. The award celebrates individual excellence and underscores the essential role of impactful training and leadership development in an organization’s success.

“We are incredibly proud of Elizabeth and Maria Jose,” LD&E Vice President Brooke Jones-Chinetti said. “Their selection for this award is a testament to their hard work and the positive impact they’ve made on our organization. Their innovative approaches to leadership development are helping us achieve our goal of providing our team members with the best job of their lives.”

Powell has advanced the company’s leadership initiatives through various programs designed to meet current and future organizational needs. Promoted from Corporate Trainer, she oversees initiatives like the masters-level Leadership Edge Programming suite, which builds senior leaders’ skills in strategic decision-making, adaptability and coaching. Her contribution to Haskell’s three-year Leadership Series introduced the Leadership Series Fast Track, an accelerated program for experienced leaders joining Haskell, ensuring cohesive development at every stage. Among her contributions is the Edge Retreat, a two-day immersive experience that gathers leaders from across Haskell’s business units for learning and engagement with C-suite leaders and guest speakers.

Toro drives engagement and learning programs that support Haskell’s global workforce and reinforce its core values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust. Over her four years with Learning, Development & Engagement at Haskell, she has developed initiatives like Quarterly Values-Based Training, a self-led series that focuses on helping team members explore and internalize the core values and build a culture of accountability across Haskell’s teams. She leads Haskell’s Global Supervisor Series program, delivered in English and Spanish, has trained over 255 leaders worldwide in emotional intelligence, communication and supervisory skills, contributing to meeting Haskell’s engagement and retention goals by increasing engagement and reducing manager turnover.

Her Recognition 2.0 course promotes meaningful recognition techniques and has improved recognition-related Gallup Q12 Engagement Survey scores. Beyond formal programs, she mentors team members through Quarterly Engagement Check-ins and contributes to Haskell Together, the company’s diversity and inclusion council.

Powell and Toro’s strategic foresight and dedication cultivate a culture of continuous growth at Haskell, raising the standards and capabilities of its leaders while embodying the commitment and innovation central to Haskell’s vision of "Creating Things That Matter."

Their recognition as Emerging Training Leaders highlights Haskell’s commitment to investing in top talent, fostering a growth-oriented environment and leading the industry with innovative training. Both will be recognized at the Training 2025 Conference & Expo in February in Orlando, Florida, and featured in Training Magazine's March 2025 issue.
