Combining two facilities in one was an opportunity to improve distribution and enhance green features.

As Nike planned to combine operations of two existing facilities into one new greenfield Memphis, Tennessee, distribution facility, they also took the opportunity to make an environmentally-friendly statement. They turned to Haskell for a master plan for the 125-acre site, which would provide parcels for a future pallet storage warehouse, a distribution warehouse and another branded footwear line.

The 1.1-million-square-foot U.S. shipping facility has many sustainable features: locally sourced, concrete tilt-up walls for FM Maximum Foreseeable Loss criteria located in a high seismic design zone, a white TPO membrane roof with solar tracking skylights, office space for staff including a full-service cafeteria, fitness center with an aerobics studio with a bamboo floor, blue-jean insulation in the office area and occupancy sensor lighting to reduce energy consumption.

Haskell provided full design services, self-performed concrete work, fabricated 3,300 tons of steel, employed local trades and relocated an onsite stream. The $54.5 million LEED® Silver Certified distribution center is a world-class footwear distribution center and one worthy of serving the venerable Nike brand.
