Home / News & Insights / ‘Ultimate Team Player’ Erin Moore Honored for Living the Values
Erin Moore answered her phone as she waited in a line of cars to pick up two of her three young daughters from school in Jacksonville, Florida. In a way, it was an appropriate setting for Moore to talk about her professional career, since her elementary school years were when the seeds of her role as Haskell’s Senior Project Coordinator of Design for Public Facilities were sown.
“I always liked to draw when I was really young,” Moore said. “My mom always said I had an interest in floor plans early on. She said I was always rearranging furniture in the house, and she would come into the family or living room, and everything would be completely different. That led to me liking the problem- and puzzle-solving that goes with architecture – trying to put something together in a meaningful and thoughtful way.”
That mentality led her to earn an architecture degree from Syracuse University and, in the process, intern at Haskell. She joined the company full-time upon graduation.
In the 23 years since, Moore has exemplified Haskell’s core values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust, for which she has received one of three quarterly Living the Values Awards.
In his nomination, Tim Little, Haskell Senior Project Coordinator of Design for Public Facilities, wrote that Moore “is the ultimate team player and so inclusive of everyone, even when it would be faster to complete something herself. She always has a kind word to say, a smile on her face and an infectious laugh.
“She will always make time to help her colleagues even though she is normally busier than she can be with ULTIMATE job in raising her three beautiful daughters.”
Moore has dived into numerous complex Haskell projects. She cites a couple that stand out in her mind.
In 2017, the California Protons Cancer Therapy Center project in San Diego challenged her and her team to create a beautiful facility to house a cutting-edge method of cancer therapy, including secure treatment rooms with concrete walls 14 feet thick.
Also memorable was the P-947 Vehicle Repair Shop at Marine Corps Logistics Base project in Albany, Georgia, her first as project coordinator, where she turned around initial plans on a Friday night at home in time for the startup phase on Monday morning.
“There’s a lot of pride in these projects on all fronts,” she said. “I’m proud that I was able to helm a project through, that it turned out profitable and that the owner was pleased we gave them what they wanted.”
The same pride resonated when she received her Living the Values Award. A co-worker set up a meeting in his office to discuss Moore’s career goals. As they talked, fellow team members gathered outside the door to spring a surprise. She laughed and called the career discussion “a total ruse.”
“I was so appreciative of the fact that other people were looking at what I do and thinking that I reflect the characteristics of this honor,” Moore said. “Working here has been special because I care about the people I work with, and I get the sense they care about me. It’s a statement about how much I enjoy working here by the fact that I’m still here 23 years later.”
