Leading healthcare provider HCA scaled quickly using DMC project delivery.

HCA Healthcare, one of the leading healthcare providers in the United States, was an early adopter of the Design Manufacture Construct (DMC) project delivery model and implemented it in many of their freestanding emergency department projects. DMC allowed HCA to create a standardized and repeatable design for multiple projects across the U.S. while adapting quickly to the differing regulatory requirements unique to each location. To achieve this goal, HCA partnered with BLOX, the company that pioneered the DMC methodology. Haskell, a BLOX partner and strategic investor, performed the construction portion of the project, performing all site work and assembling the manufactured modules for HCA’s Trailwinds Village ER.

The freestanding ER extended care to one of the nation’s largest retirement communities.

Trailwinds Village ER, located in Ocala, Florida, is a freestanding emergency department and acts as an extension of the Ocala Regional Hospital. This FSER brings an Acute Care facility, including medical gas, decontamination, and isolation rooms, closer to the retirement community of The Villages. This facility includes emergency beds, a trauma room, X-Ray, CT, MRI, mammography and ultrasound capabilities. The project also includes a state-of-the-art nurse station with clearstory to allow ample natural light to enter the space.

HCA progressed from groundbreaking to patient care in seven months.

Thanks to the efficiency of DMC delivery, the 11,500-square-foot facility was certified and open to patients only seven months after breaking ground. The community benefitted, as the facility’s emergency services were available more quickly than would have been possible using standard design and construction techniques.
