A strategic expansion increased production capacity and modernized laundry operations.
Haskell was selected to design a major expansion of the on site laundry facility, increasing annual processing capacity from 6.4 million pounds to 17.5 million pounds. The project introduced a new 10,000 square foot building to accommodate a 14 compartment tunnel washer, eight natural gas dryers, an ironer and folding equipment, automated clean and dirty laundry rail systems, office spaces and upgraded locker and break areas to support additional staff. Site improvements, including a new parking lot with lighting, improved circulation for both employees and delivery vehicles and helped streamline overall operations.
Infrastructure upgrades enhanced mechanical performance and supported expanded equipment needs.
To support the increased production load, the project expanded the chiller plant with a new 150 ton air cooled chiller serving air handling units, equipment cooling and staff areas. Steam and hot water generation capacity was significantly increased with the installation of a 150 HP water tube boiler, supplemental pumps and redundant 2,000 MBTU/hr plate and frame heat exchangers, replacing decommissioned Lochinvar water heaters. The existing chemical injection system was upgraded and relocated to meet new bulk chemical storage requirements and support the higher volume operations of the expanded tunnel wash and drying systems.
A seamless implementation improved efficiency, reliability and production outcomes.
The expansion was executed with minimal disruption to ongoing laundry operations, ensuring continuity of service throughout construction. Enhancements to steam and hot water systems improved overall energy efficiency and reduced cycle times for existing washers, contributing to measurable gains in throughput. The combined improvements, ranging from automation upgrades to mechanical infrastructure enhancements, allowed the facility to achieve its goals for increased production capacity, improved workflow and operational efficiency. The result is a more resilient, high performance laundry operation equipped to support long term systemwide demands.
