Diageo Atreyu

La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico

Global spirits producer Diageo is expanding throughout Mexico’s tequila region.

Located at the Rancho Casablanca estate in La Barca, Jalisco, Mexico, Diageo’s large-scale tequila distillery will be the largest such production plant in the world. Haskell is working with multiple firms to develop the project’s first phase, including conceptual design and detailed engineering.

Haskell is providing multidisciplinary design services for a large-scale tequila facility.

The expansive site will comprise 17 distinct buildings such as agave receiving areas, tequila production facilities, booths, pump rooms and offices. The first phase is expected to support daily production capacity of 145,000 liters, while the second and third phases will expand that to 280,000 liters. Haskell conducted soil, geotechnical and hydrology assessments and, based on the foundational design developed by our engineering partners, is also providing public electrical and mechanical services.

Collaborating with four additional companies requires transparent communication.

Teaming Haskell, Diageo, RKD Architects and separate international companies providing process design and electrical engineering, the Atreyu facility is a highly collaborative effort. Communication across time zones, languages and differing business practices demands dedicated effort. Haskell has facilitated that coordination by clearly defining each engineering scope and navigating technical and legal areas amid frequent change orders.

The project’s remote location has presented further challenges. When travel and work visa issues threatened a labor shortage, Haskell provided its own staff to cover process avoiding further delays in the project’s start

The project positions Diageo for long-term production growth in a key Mexican region.

Haskell’s design and engineering work gives Diageo a compliant, coordinated foundation for large-scale tequila production. The facility’s phased approach and Haskell’s continued site support reflect the scale and complexity of building premium spirits production capacity in a remote location
