Haskell Reality Capture Opening Offers a Cutting-Edge Opportunity
Ready to take your BIM and VDC skills to the next level? Join an industry leader in the development and application of construction technology.
Widely known as a leader in aggressively implementing advanced technology to meet construction challenges, Haskell is offering an opportunity for a Reality Capture & Digital Layout Specialist to join its Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team.
The successful candidate will use Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies and VDC workflows for digital layout for self-perform and QA/QC, laser scanning, laser scan registration, scan-to-BIM, drone operations and other innovative technical skillsets to support project teams as they pursue, design, manage and execute projects.
“We are looking for someone who is interested in travel, the use of cutting-edge scanning and layout technology, someone who’s able to work independently on small teams on fast-paced projects with high attention to detail,” said Ryan Camer, Director of Virtual Construction. “It’s exciting. It's a business that's rapidly growing – laser scanning itself, reality capture and digital layout are taking off. We’re proud that we’re early adopters with over a decade of experience in leveraging laser scans and digital layout equipment, which are rapidly growing in the industry. Laser scanning was brought in-house only four years ago after extensive outsourcing, and we’ve already executed more than 90 internal scan projects.”
Frequent travel is a vital component of the job, as Haskell’s VDC teams visit a wide variety of job sites across the U.S.
“We could be laser-scanning a chocolate chip cookie plant one week, a hospital the next, and rocket manufacturing facility the following week,” Camer said. “We recently completed our largest scan project to date, for the Jacksonville Jaguars, spending several weeks laser-scanning their entire stadium so that we have accurate information in lieu of outdated and incomplete record drawings. So, you're really getting to see and experience all facets of building types that we do. It’s fast-paced, so it keeps the day-to-day interesting.”
A prime example of reality capture and innovation in action currently is earning Haskell and joint venture (JV) partner NV2A numerous industry awards for their work on the highly complex Norwegian Cruise Line Cruise Terminal B at PortMiami.

Facing an incredibly tight construction timetable, the JV applied building BIM and virtual construction at an unprecedented level. BIM was used for all design and trade coordination, and more than 100,000 square feet of glass curtain wall was fabricated directly from the BIM model rather than from measurements in the field. The real-time, hyper-accurate model enabled through laser scanning and digital layout technology saved six months of construction time.
“It definitely is exciting to being on the cutting edge or, in some cases, the bleeding edge of technology,” Camer said. “The individual in this position may be attending conferences and trade shows, learning about new scanning equipment and then immediately implementing game-changing solutions. We do pivot very quickly as we continue to find new and improved technology. It’s a source of pride.”
In addition to providing a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment, Haskell operates with the direction of six strategic pillars, the first of which is to “Provide Team Members the BEST Job of Their Lives.” It offers a robust benefits package that includes a 401k match and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), which creates stock ownership for every full-time team member.
