The 2023 Construction Safety Week theme “Strong Voices, Safe Choices” is apropos at Haskell. Nothing is voiced more frequently or stridently among its team members than the mission-critical matter of safety.

“Driving operational excellence starts with safety, and our Haskell team members and contract partners continue to demonstrate, every day, that safety is an operational priority,” said Brian Roundtree, Haskell Director of Corporate Safety. “But we can never take our eye off the ball.”

Haskell is and has been an industry leader, having received the Associated Builders and Contractors National Safety Pinnacle Award for the second consecutive year and the third in the past four.

Statistically, Haskell is measured against the commercial construction industry based on Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), which is compiled by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2022, Haskell team members recorded a TRIR of 0.28 while executing in excess of 4.2 million manhours. This represents a performance that was the third-best in company history, 10 times better than the industry average.

Overall, including contract partners, Haskell recorded a record 10.8 million manhours, and it's Work in Place (WIP) metric, which covers that entire workforce, was 0.93, the best mark since tracking began in 2014. The accomplishment owes to stringent prequalification of contract partners and expedient but thorough education. But it also reflects an unwavering commitment from top to bottom.

“Everybody is responsible for safety at Haskell,” Chairman, CEO and President Jim O’Leary said.

Safety is always in sharp focus at Haskell, but Construction Safety Week offers a special opportunity to showcase the people, practices and methods that create a world-class safety culture.
