Through the high quality and systemization of its work on the Indigo PepsiCo food manufacturing plant in Medellin, Colombia, Haskell’s Latin American Division has earned three significant certifications from the Colombian Institute of Technical Standards and Certification (ICONTEC).

ICONTEC is a non-profit organization recognized by the Colombian government as the national standardization body and represents the nation before the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The certificates – Quality ISO 9001 version 2015, Environment ISO 14001 version 2015 and Safety and Health at Work ISO 45001 version 2018 – distinguish Haskell for its reliability and high-quality outcomes.

Under the direction of Construction Manager Waldo Salado and Quality Coordinator Jose Torres and Document Controller Miguel Rivera, the team implemented an Integrated Management System (IMS), which is a set of documents, processes, and procedures that meet the requirements of national and international standards in an integrated, comprehensive, and multifaceted way. In so doing, the team established a culture that emphasizes a preventative approach to safety, quality and the risk management.

“This could only be achieved with the commitment we had from the entire team in the strategic planning and execution of the IMS,” Torres said. “Having the contribution of each team member in the process was fundamental. So, what seemed difficult from the planning perspective became a simple roadmap to execute.

Rivera added: “Then, in just one year of the implementation of the Integral Management System, Haskell Colombia was able to meet a great objective, which was to comply with the requirements established by ICONTEC. This is just incredible and an excellent achievement for the entire team of professionals who participated in the process."

Training is a fundamental pillar that guarantees adequate monitoring and control of the internal processes and subcontract partners, generating traceability that allows Haskell to identify lessons learned and continuously improve.

IMS implementation and the trio of certifications it produced translate to numerous benefits as Haskell provides Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) in Colombia:

  • They provide clients with official validation of the company’s reliability and efficiency and guarantee compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • They ensure the highest possible levels of safety and quality.
  • Optimized processes increase productivity, reducing costs and improving execution times.
  • Optimized use of resources leads to the reduction of waste and minimizes the use of toxic materials, resulting in lower disposal costs.
