An ice storm scuttled Ben Meurer’s plans for face-to-face interviews at Haskell’s Jacksonville, Florida headquarters two years ago. But in these post-COVID times, the parties made do; the meetings proceeded — not exactly face-to-face, but close enough thanks to technology.

Haskell leaders were intrigued by the possibilities Meurer presented. And Meuer readied himself for a challenge and accepted the job, virtually sight unseen.

He said it was a fantastic decision, reveling even now in all that Haskell and the Sunshine State have had to offer.

But it was a substantial leap. The Kentucky native started his career as an intern with a peer corporation in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, was hired as an assistant project manager (APM) and rose to vice president over more than two decades. Along the way, he developed expertise in site selection, design-build, preconstruction, client management and overall team building, which highlight his comprehensive understanding of the sector.

Haskell brought him on board as a vice president and project executive. Subsequently, given his experience playing crucial roles from concept to completion in automotive-related manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, fulfillment and distribution centers, and numerous data centers, he added the responsibility of Manufacturing Market Leader.

The establishment of a Mission Critical business unit and acquisition of a major electric vehicle battery plant project before joining Haskell indicates Meurer’s strategic vision and his ability to lead complex initiatives.

“Since taking this new role as Market Leader, we’ve been busy trying to educate the market about Haskell’s capabilities in the advanced manufacturing world,” he said. “I have a very diverse background over the years rooted in design and building projects ranging from large distribution centers to large manufacturing projects and data center spaces.”

Engineering News-Record ranks Haskell in 27 separate work categories, including as the No. 1 contractor for Aerospace Manufacturing and No. 2 in Food and beverage Manufacturing. It now has experience with data center projects.

“We are further establishing Haskell as a market leader,” Meurer said. “I get excited about helping build a market the company can be proud of and it becomes a legacy for years to come for all the Haskell team members.

This narrative of professional evolution is inspiring, showcasing how individual determination, when coupled with corporate foresight and technological leverage, can lead to significant accomplishments. Meurer's story is one of seizing opportunities, embracing challenges, and driving progress, all while navigating the uncertainties of a rapidly changing business landscape.

Meurer and Jamie, his wife of 25 years, have two college-aged daughters. The couple recently moved to the charming seaside town of Fernandina Beach, Florida. When not working and planning for Haskell’s future, Meurer enjoys golf and boating and is excited about Florida’s year-round recreation offerings.

And he is enthusiastic about the move to Haskell.

“Honestly, I’m not just saying this: I’m kind of blown away with how nice everyone is,” he said. “I tell people all the time how there is a really great culture here. Haskell provides its team members with the best job of their life. It's not just words spoken. It is lived every day by the Haskell team.”
