Edgar Ferrer has always looked up to others in the construction business, beginning as a youngster and continuing for the past four and a half years with Haskell.

Ferrer, a Structural Design Engineer at the Latin America (LATAM) Design Center, is based in his hometown, Mexico City, and leads the structural team. His father was a mason in Mexico’s capital city, and the family grew up on the southeast side in the Iztapalapa borough, the most populous area.

“I always accompanied and worked with my father on construction sites, which instilled in me a deep love for construction and the fascinating world of structural design,” Ferrer said. He calls his mother and late father “my greatest pillar and motivation.”

Following his education, Ferrer became an engineer 16 years ago and was hired by Haskell in late 2019. Aside from the company’s excellent engineering work, Ferrer found a bond because of “the high quality of human beings that I have as colleagues.”

He called building a distribution facility for the Campari Group, an Italian spirits maker, one of his most rewarding projects because it was awarded Haskell’s 2022 Engineering Project of the Year and because “its structural design was a collaborative effort among my colleagues.”

His collaborative spirit was one of many reasons that Ferrer was recently honored with the company’s Living the Values Award, given quarterly to those Haskell team members who consistently display Haskell’s corporate values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust.

Ferrer’s nominators from the LATAM Design Center team wrote that he “fulfills, perseveres and leads by example” and “is always focused on meeting objectives and goals for the execution of projects, generating new ideas and therefore increasing the motivation of his colleagues.” Other attributes cited included “good attitude, disposition, honesty, empathy and camaraderie.”

“Edgar Ferrer fully meets the qualities of an exemplary worker since his passion, intelligence and leadership make his work and team more efficient every day when it comes to executing their jobs,” they wrote. “His remarkable leadership and communication skills have been of great use in obtaining great results.”

Ferrer said he received the news of his achievement during a surprise meeting.

“It truly was the most unexpected surprise of my professional life,” he said. I felt nervousness, astonishment, and happiness. Many thoughts raced through my mind. Above all, I felt gratitude for the honor — a lot of gratitude.”

When Ferrer has time to relax, he spends it with his wife, stepdaughter, mother, sister and niece. He also enjoys boxing, swimming and watching Formula 1 racing.
