Miller Electric Center, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ new practice facility and sports performance center, has won the ENR Southeast’s 2024 Best Project Award in the Sports/Entertainment category, the magazine has announced.

From more than 120 projects submitted to the contest – roughly a 50% increase from 2023 – judges chose 35 projects as either Best Project or Award of Merit winners in 16 categories. National ENR Best Project winners will be selected from the field of regional winners in each category.

Judges scored projects on multiple criteria, including how the project teams overcame challenges and worked together as a team, how they innovated and contributed to the industry, the construction quality and craftsmanship of the project, its function and aesthetics, and more.

As the project’s construction manager at risk during the project’s 18-month lifespan, Haskell worked diligently with its contract partners to ensure that the facility stayed within an aggressive schedule that would have it ready for the team’s 2023 training camp.

“With a firm completion date in advance of Training Camp 2023, and despite the tight schedule, supply chain issues, and market labor challenges, the Haskell team, comprised of highly talented professionals, demonstrated an ability to face every issue head-on and make immediate decisions to mitigate any effect on schedule and budget,” Jaguars President Mark Lamping said in a letter submitted as part of the contest application.

Miller Electric Center is one of a series of steps the Jaguars and the City of Jacksonville are taking that will lead to the creation of the Stadium of the Future, a total renovation of EverBank Stadium. The team relocated all football operations from inside the existing stadium to the dedicated, new facility.

The new, state-of-the-art, 125,000-square-foot sports performance center is maintained by the Jaguars and owned by the city. It includes locker rooms, training and recovery areas, medical support facilities, a weight room, player dining, office space and a draft room. It also features 2,090-seat shaded grandstand seats in the fan amenity area, complete with concessions, restrooms, public art and a Fanatics Pro Shop.

The footprint of the new facility is 18 acres and includes a 96,000-square-foot indoor practice field and two outdoor fields.

“Members of the Haskell team exhibited a partnering relationship with the Jaguars staff to be responsive and developed and implemented creative solutions to overcome any challenges that came up,” Lamping wrote. “Thanks also to the many subcontractors who worked on this project. Most importantly, thanks to the hundreds of hard-working men and women who did the work under often very trying conditions.”
