Join us in celebrating Symon Pacheco's dedication at Haskell, which embodies the company's core values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust.
If Symon Pacheco were a member of a successful athletic team, he would be known as the “glue guy.” Whatever is needed, Pacheco is there to make it happen. That enthusiasm and willingness to help made him a Living the Values Award recipient for the fourth quarter of 2023.
Pacheco, 29, is the Assistant Project Manager with Haskell’s Charlotte, North Carolina, Water Project team. His responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to, handling invoices, billing, sequencing of materials, change orders, site coordination, and interacting with the project superintendent and subcontractors.
“Each morning, Symon greets everyone cheerfully and always contributes to great team morale,” Senior Project Manager Joshua LeFevre wrote in his nomination letter. “Symon is willing to take on any task with a great attitude, whether it’s in the field or crunching numbers in the trailer.
“He has worked many night shifts and weekends on the project without complaint. With a growing team, he quickly makes bonds with new team members and makes them feel welcome. He is an example to our folks as well as our subcontract partners of how to treat others. I know I speak for the project team as well as the Charlotte Office when I say that we’re very grateful to have Symon on board.”
The Living the Values Award is given quarterly to three team members who consistently display Haskell’s corporate values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust with commitment and passion.
“I didn’t even know we had these kinds of awards,” Pacheco said. “I’m just grateful that the effort I have put in has been noticed by my superiors.”
The son of an over-the-road truck driver, he was the sixth of 10 children and was homeschooled. Dyslexia and mild ADHD kept him from learning to read until age 12, and he earned his GED at age 17. He developed an interest in working outdoors while growing up on 35 acres in Colorado and mechanical acumen while assisting his father with truck maintenance.
After a two-year mission in California with the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church (LDS, he moved to Hawaii to join his relocated family. There, he joined the LDS Pathway program, a low-cost, online educational opportunity through which students earn college credits that transfer to BYU-Idaho and some other universities.
At BYU-Idaho, located in Rexburg, Idaho, about 250 miles north of Salt Lake City, Pacheco majored in Design and Construction Management and met his wife, Madolyn. He graduated in April 2022 and, through the school, learned of an opening with Haskell in Charlotte, which happened to be near Madolyn’s home. The two have two children, Max, 4, and Casey, 1. Symon often takes the night shift with the children but still arrives at work the following day with a cheerful disposition.
Pacheco expresses pride for the Charlotte Water project, where Haskell has worked to enlarge the wastewater treatment facilities in one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities. The smaller suburban towns of Belmont and Mt. Holly will benefit from the work.
“I have really enjoyed how upfront and honest everyone from Haskell has been,” Pacheco said. “And I really love the work that we’re doing. It’s a good place. It’s important to me to see my kids grow up. I really appreciate that my superiors understand the importance of family here at Haskell.”
