A systemwide pharmacy initiative advanced compliance with new USP standards.
Haskell partnered with Novant Health to upgrade fourteen existing medical center pharmacies and design three new oncology pharmacy spaces to meet revised USP 797/800 standards. These updates ensure safe handling of sterile and hazardous medications, reflecting Novant Health’s commitment to regulatory compliance and high quality patient care. Because each facility varied in type, age and layout, the project required tailored design solutions that addressed unique conditions while achieving consistent systemwide performance.
Technical upgrades modernized infrastructure and supported safe medication preparation.
Required improvements under the updated USP guidelines included new mechanical equipment and controls, HEPA filter diffusers, improved flooring and ceiling systems, upgraded lighting and interlocking pass through cabinets. Each pharmacy presented a distinct set of structural and environmental challenges, which shaped design and construction. Before initiating the design process, Haskell conducted detailed assessments of existing conditions across all sites, spanning the Charlotte region, Forsyth County and parts of Virginia, to identify necessary upgrades and establish a clear compliance roadmap.
Coordinated, safety driven solutions delivered consistent performance across diverse sites.
Updating multiple compounding pharmacies across different facility types required precise coordination of mechanical systems, environmental controls and specialized components to ensure safe workflows for sterile and hazardous drug preparation. The team’s ability to integrate new systems within active clinical environments while maintaining operational continuity demonstrates Haskell’s expertise in managing complex, compliance driven healthcare projects. The result is a cohesive set of safe, efficient and USP compliant pharmacy environments supporting oncology care and medication preparation across Novant Health’s network.
