One benefit of Haskell’s growth in recent years has been the number of communities in which it works and, subsequently, the number of communities in which Haskell team members can make a difference.

Recently, the International Group organized a donation and service strategy in Colombia and Mexico to support six nonprofit organizations that provide relief to marginalized communities and those suffering the effects of natural disasters.

The Latin America effort comprised contributions to the following organizations to counteract their individual causes:

  • The Asociación Mexicana de Ayuda a Niños con Cáncer I.A.P. (AMANC) in Mexico City provides comprehensive care to children and adolescents with cancer.
  • Asociación Mexicana de Diabetes en Nuevo León A.C. in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, offers comprehensive health services to those living with diabetes and their families through medical care, nutrition, psychology, podiatry and Diabetes education.
  • Casa Hogar San Pablo I.A.P. in Queretaro, Queretaro, Mexico, and Guardería Los Pitufos in Medellin, Colombia, offers professional services to children with intellectual or physical disabilities in institutional settings.
  • Casa Cuna Sagrado Corazón de Jesús in Puebla, Puebla, Mexico, protects and promotes children
threatened by abuse, social exclusion and dysfunctional families with limited resources.
  • Hogar Santa María de Guadalupe in Guarne, Colombia, aids families and individuals in extreme poverty with no home situation.

Haskell.com asked team members in the Latin America Region their thoughts and motivations for participating in the philanthropic efforts.

  • “The possibility of helping is always a privilege, and it brings an important feeling of gratitude.” – Guadalupe Rangel, Assistant Project Manager.
  • “The reason is because the social work was organized in the month of the child. That is why we sought to support a foundation that would support children, and we found AMANC, which is an association that supports low-income families so that children with cancer can be fulfilled their treatments and do not have to interrupt them due to lack of resources.” – Jessica Gutiérrez, Administrative Assistant.
  • “I like to participate in altruistic campaigns. It is not the first time that I have participate in one, but in this one I was very moved when I saw that they were children with cancer.” – Marco Rangel, Assistant Project Manager.
  • “What motivates me to support is to be able to give ‘my grain of sand’ to positively contribute to the world in which I live. I consider myself a very lucky person, since I have not experienced precariousness, nor have my loved ones.” – Mary Carmen López, Human Resources Manager.

Haskell encourages altruism on the part of team members by providing monthly paid time off, a direct extension of its Core Values of Team, Excellence, Service and Trust.

“For someone who works all day sometimes it can be difficult to have free time to go to institutions to volunteer,” said Marketing Specialist Perla Moreno. “Haskell is a great company that I highly value, since it facilitates the logistics and offers different options to help in some way, according to our time-and-money possibilities.”

Construction Manager Waldo Salado added, “In my opinion, this feeds our vision and commitment to shake hands with those most in need without expecting something in return.”

Community-building also aligns closely with the six pillars of Haskell 2025, the company’s strategic roadmap that stresses responsible growth in the communities it serves.

“It is a clear compliance with the 2025 value proposition,” said Miguel Rivera, Quality Coordinator in Colombia. “These initiatives allow us to improve our position in the market, work environment, management of environmental impacts and social development, and project a genuine, friendly and close image that Haskell is a socially responsible company.”

From a personal standpoint, many team members find that the ability to participate in community service ties directly to the first of the Haskell 2025 pillars.

“According to the six pillars, I agree that this is the best job of my life,” said Paola Peña, Assistant Project Manager I in Colombia. “It comforts me to know that Haskell takes into account and manages that we are moved to help others and makes us aware that there are people who don´t have the same conditions and opportunities that we have been able to access. “we can have an excellent quality of life that we can extend to our community with economic and social support.”
