Diageo Manufacturing Line Improvements

Plainfield, Illinois

Diageo engaged Haskell to redistribute production across two operating facilities.

Diageo, the second-largest distiller in the world, has worked with Haskell on several projects in the past, including a construction effort at their St. Croix plant and the installation of new bottling and can lines at its facility in Relay, Maryland. When the spirits manufacturer decided to redistribute the SKUs of their most popular products across two facilities within its Plainfield, Illinois, complex, they entrusted our team with the project execution.

Project execution had to work around continuous 24/7 plant operations.

This EPC project was a large-scale effort to consolidate production lines, add new space, provide site improvements and increase the overall production rate and volume of Diageo’s best-known brands of premium spirits. As an added challenge, all the design, construction, process and packaging work had to be completed inside an active facility that is in operation 24/7.

We renovated a 23,000-square-foot bottling hall by removing five old bottling lines and adding three new technologically advanced lines with automated palletizers and miles of conveyance systems. Additionally, we expanded a 20,000-square-foot process building and tank farm, including the design, procurement and installation of all necessary utilities and equipment.

We achieved our objective to provide Diageo with a more efficient system to increase production.

With new and improved lines installed, there was an increase in production rate. The 22,000-square-foot warehouse expansion allowed Diageo to increase shipping and receiving efficiency.
