JACKSONVILLE, FL - Haskell has been awarded $24 million in U.S. Coast Guard design-build contracts. The first contract includes the design and construction of a new Station Building and Boathouse to replace existing facilities on the banks of Lake Erie in Grand River, Ohio. Redevelopment of the existing USCG site will also include a new boat haul-out, finger piers, a floating dock, and travel lift.
The second award is for the delivery of a design-build Recapitalize Buoy Tender Waterfront project that will support Coast Guard operations in the Newport area which install and maintain navigational buoys. Work will include a new steel sheet pile bulkhead system, 7,000 CY of dredging; electrical, water, sewer and data/communication shore ties, along with a new office and shop/storage building.
Design for both facilities is underway. The Rhode Island work will be completed by January 2014, followed by a September 2014 completion of the Grand River project. Haskell’s innovative scheduling and phasing approach will allow the Coast Guard to maintain active base operations throughout each project delivery. Both facilities will be LEED Silver certified.
Haskell Coast Guard Design Build Projects Crewmembers of Station Fairport Ohio, which has been in existence since 1876, patrol the waters of Lake Erie. They provide multi-mission services in search and rescue, maritime safety and security, environmental protection, maritime law enforcement, aids to navigation and icebreaking. The Newport, Rhode Island area has maintained an important military presence since the American Revolution. Today, Coast Guard operations at Newport install and maintain navigational buoys as well as provide maritime law enforcement. “Haskell recently completed Coast Guard facilities at Eatons Neck, New York and Key West, Florida,” said Mike Huskey, Project Director, “and we are pleased to contribute to the continued longevity of the historical Fairport and Newport stations.”
