Charleston, SC and Petaluma, CA – Haskell has been awarded $12.5 million in U.S. Coast Guard design-build contracts. The first contract, Home-Porting National Security Cutters (NSC) at U.S. Coast Guard Sector Charleston, South Carolina, involves the design and construction of a new larger diameter fendering system to accommodate the unique NSC hull configuration as well as concrete spall repair of a World War II–era pier. The project also includes a new storage building, renovation to an existing support building, a new equipment shelter, some demolition work and provisions for new electrical, telecommunications and compressed air shore-tie services.
The second award is for the delivery of a design-build C4ISR Building Addition at USCG Training Center Petaluma in Two Rock, California. This work encompasses a 12,000 SF building addition and renovation to an existing highly secure, occupied facility that houses training simulators for Coast Guard vessels.
Design for both facilities is underway. The Charleston work will be completed by March 2014, followed by a July 2014 completion of the Petaluma project. Haskell’s innovative scheduling and phasing approach will allow the Coast Guard to maintain uninterrupted base and training operations throughout each project delivery. Both facilities will be LEED SILVER certified.
Surrounded by working ranches and vineyards, the land-locked Training Center Petaluma is the Coast Guard’s largest West Coast Training Center. Their graduates make up the newest cooks, medics, storekeepers, yeoman, information technicians, electronics technicians, and operations specialists in support of the Coast Guard’s global mission. This addition to the Petaluma Training Center will house simulators for the Coast Guard’s new fleet of Fast Response Cutters.
USCG Sector Charleston is surrounded by Historic Charleston. The active seagoing port with access to the Ashley and Cooper Rivers provides an ideal position for many seagoing missions as well as a variety of shore based activities.
