JACKSONVILLE, FL – Haskell was recently awarded an Army NAF IMCOM G-9 design-build contract for the Shades of Green (SOG) Magnolia Building Restoration Project in Orlando, FL. Located near Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, this is a premier vacation destination for the United States Armed Forces personnel and their families. Haskell is excited to help reestablish this property as a leading resort with the modern, contemporary atmosphere that our military deserves. The total project cost is expected to exceed $40 million and construction is scheduled for completion in September of 2018.
The design-build scope includes the complete demolition and renovation of the Magnolia Building interior, along with re-roofing and new exterior painting of the resort. In order to help maximize occupancy of the 286 affected rooms, Haskell proposed to break the project into three consecutive phases to keep entire sections of the hotel functional, and minimize impact to the resort operations within the proposed 19 month overall construction duration.
Haskell’s design solutions for the SOG renovation support Disney’s sustainable vision. Walt Disney World Resort is a leader in the effort to operate and maintain a sustainable environment; they utilize the latest conservation policies and practices. As a renovation project on a previously developed site within this resort, the Shades of Green Magnolia Restoration has an opportunity to integrate sustainable strategies and features that minimize energy consumption, conserve resources, provide occupant comfort, and reduce the total cost of ownership. All of these strategies are crucial in achieving LEED Silver Certification at the completion of this project.
