Project Highlights:

• Reconstruction of the I-95 Northbound and Southbound Rest Areas in Martin County, Florida
• Provided all services associated with design, construction, demolition, reconstruction and maintenance of traffic for both rest area sites
• Designed to meet future usage requirements
• New buildings and picnic pavilions, expansion and reconfiguration of parking accommodations, milling and resurfacing existing ramps, ramp modifications, and demolition/reconstruction of water and wastewater treatment facilities
• Utilized asphalt-treated permeable base and engineered concrete pavement system
• Sitework included demolition of existing buildings, import of fill, extensive grading, stormwater retention, landscaping and protection of existing wetlands
• Incorporated a number of security and traffic calming features: rumble strips; a raised pedestrian crosswalk; additional sidewalks; and a security loop road to facilitate access and onsite surveillance by security personnel
• Design features which minimize maintenance and enhance economy of operation included brick veneer exterior, durable tile finishes, sealed stucco accents, a 20-year roofing system, xeriscape landscaping/native plantings and a highly efficient water/wastewater treatment plant
