U.S. Fleet Forces Command Headquarters

Norfolk, Virginia

A new facility fosters a secure, coordinated environment among worldwide defense forces.

When the U.S. Navy sought to consolidate operations that support global fleet readiness, they turned to Haskell. Haskell’s integrated design-build team developed a design and executed delivery of a complex facility that would ultimately provide a headquarters and operational environment for senior-level officers and staff.

We designed a command center with conventional and high-tech advantages.

The exterior wall system of the 46,000-square-foot headquarters features ground face block, brick veneer and split-face block accents with rigid insulation and structural concrete backup. Casting the tilt-up structural wall panels onsite allowed a rapid construction timeline, quickly providing a weathered-in shell. An emergency generator guarantees continued operation, and raised access flooring with a reconfigurable layout securely accommodates high volumes of sensitive communications and data equipment. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility rooms, secret storage areas, administrative and support facilities, commercial foodservice and high-end interiors make for a pleasing, highly functional, and secure workplace.

It was a mission-driven by service and service members.

With such critical administrative and support operations, we created a fixed-command facility that exemplified its mission to the country and to our military services. The facility has streamlined fleet operations and incorporated numerous sustainable features that support LEED® Silver certification.
